What if my dog is REALLY hard to photograph?

You know what I love?! When I meet someone and they say, “My dog is black, so he/she can’t be photographed well.” I love this––because I get to prove them wrong!

In fact, my favorite thing to do is photograph a black dog on a black background, or a white dog on a white background.

Meatball’s Story

When Meatball bounded into my studio, full of energy, long black hair flying every which way, his Dad looked at my apologetically and said, 'I know we won't be able to see his eyes in the artwork, and I guess thats OK'.

UH...NO!

It's not OK!

And we got eyes in every single image!!

The truth of the matter is that, without professional training, it CAN be hard. This is because, typically, your camera or camera phone will rely on points of contrast in order to lock focus. With black dogs, there is very little contrast and so often the focusing systems continue to hunt for focus to no avail. That's why it's important to hire a photographer who knows what they're doing!
